This was a time consuming decision! Since I never "got me a husband" I had wanted a Viking (Its a Wonderful Life, she was saving up to get a husband..) but the more I read, the more I realized a Viking wasn't a good idea. many questions... what size? cooktop vs range top, wall ovens. I was going to split the appliances so I had wall ovens, combo microwave and a range top. Since i am not that tall i thought this would cause problems if I was trying to take something heavy out because it would want to slide backwards. I don't know what heavy things I would cook, but it could happen. Initially, the wall oven was very appealing since I thought it would be a pain to bend over in the future, but that was silly, maybe when I am 100 I will worry about that. My dad brought up a good point about the wall oven microwave combo, if there is a problem, which there will be, it will be an issue. Besides, we don't even use a microwave now!
The range on the island didn't seem safe and I don't like the look of a vent over a hood ... and they are more expensive. So we settled on range, but that opened up a slew of other decisions. 36" or 48" ? dual fuel or gas? stainless steel top or porcelain. I liked the look of stainless on top but I also know I am messy, it wouldn't look good for long and needs to be cleaned immediately. Acidic foods will stain, discolor, so that left me with thermador, dacor or ge profile. ...But then I kept reading about BlueStar, made in Reading, PA www.bluestarcooking.com. A great website to see the bluestar in action is Eurostoves, lots of videos www.eurostoves.com. the top is cast iron and the profile is flat, 48 inches, very extravagant but its my mate!
